Soaring Spirits International was established in 2008 to provide a unique peer-based support community for widowed people around the world. SSI is an inclusive, secular organization dedicated to connecting widowed people with each other to provide hope and healing through the grieving process. We are positive, and forward thinking, while focusing on offering our members the tools and resources they need to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the death of a spouse or partner.
There are several programs hosted by Soaring Spirits that are all designed to connect widowed people with each other for peer based support, and encouragement. You will find descriptions for these programs below. All programs can be accessed from our website.
Online Support
Our Widowed Pen Pal program will match a widowed person with another widowed person for one-on-one supportive e-mail correspondence.
Our Widow’s Voice Blog is written by eight different widowed people who share the ups and downs of their own widowed journeys, as they live them. The blog features a new post every day.
Widowed Village is an online community that provides members with access to other widowed people around the clock, each and every day from the comfort of your own home.
Social Media: Soaring Spirits shares daily content through all of our social media channels to inspire, uplift, and validate our widowed community. Links to all social media channels can be found on our home page.
You are Not Alone Outreach is a community program that provides packets of organizational and support information to newly widowed people free of charge. We also provide business sized outreach cards designed to easily connect a widowed person with our peer programs.
In-Person Support
Regional Groups provide an opportunity for regular in-person gatherings with other widowed people in various communities in the US and Canada. These meetings facilitate understanding, friendship, and peer support.
Camp Widow is a weekend long event, hosted three times a year that brings together widowed people from around the world to celebrate the healing power of community. The focus of Camp Widow is recreating the future, while honoring the past. The weekend is packed with useful tools, reliable resources, and the invaluable experience of being surrounded by peers in this unlikely, but incredible, community.
Camp Widow Pop-up is a one day version of our Camp Widow program which offers workshop style content, group discussions and the opportunity to connect with widowed people whose grief experience is similar their own.
Whatever program we offer that appeals to you will be a first step in building a team of support on which you can count through the days ahead. Though connecting with a widowed community won’t change the fact that you are widowed, walking through this experience with other widowed people does make that reality just a bit easier to face.
